Early Childhood Education

Description

The Early Childhood Education program is designed to teach students the aspects of teaching and working with young children, from birth through elementary age. Students will explore career pathways and develop the characteristics of successful teachers and childcare providers through practicums. Applying theoretical concepts to real-life situations, students are able to take what they have learned in the classroom and apply it to their rotation experiences where they learn how to meet the developmental needs and interests of young children in elementary school and daycare settings.

Tina Beal is excited to be the first CTE Early Childhood Instructor at CWCIT.   She grew up on Beals Island and attended Jonesport-Beals High School. After high school, she received her bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Maine Orono and her master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Bangor University in the United Kingdom.

Upon returning home, Ms. Beal also completed her certification in Early Intervention Special Education, a field in which she has worked for the past six years. She is looking forward to starting this career path and in having a positive impact on education in Washington County.

Ms. Beal currently lives on Beals Island with her cat Junebug. She has been a licensed resource (foster) parent for two years and serves on the state's Resource Parent Advisory Committee. In addition to this, she is also on her town's 4th of July Committee, which surprisingly keeps her busy with year round events. When she is not working or volunteering, she is at camp all summer with her family and friends.

Building your future… and the kids you teach.
